Richie Steamboat:
A New Dragon Has Risen

Richie Steamboat has the foundation to become a WWE Superstar. Richie comes from an athletic background playing linebacker for Four Seasons at Lake Norman High and as an amateur wrestler. He grew up around the wrestling business with his legendary father Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and is now training at the Harley Race Wrestling Academy. Tie all these elements together along with a strong work ethic, solid upbringing and an intense desire to succeed; this young man is on his way to future stardom.
Growing up, did you always imagine yourself stepping into the ring and
becoming a professional wrestler?
I’ve always wanted to wrestle. My dad wanted to make sure that I had a
strong head on my shoulders before he would take me into the business
Take us back to the moment when you told your father you wanted to enter
the business of professional wrestling. Did he give you any advice?
Yes. My father told me to work hard and success will follow.
Do you have a favorite childhood memory of you and your dad?
My favorite memory of my dad and I is when I won the Tournament of Champions with my dad by my side.
Why did you decide to start training at the Harley Race wrestling academy?
My dad wanted me to be trained by the best, and Harley is one of the
greatest wrestlers of all-time.
What is your impression of the academy and World League Wrestling?
World League Wrestling is a first class operation. The guys here are some of the most passionate and knowledgeable wrestlers that I’ve ever worked with.
In the wrestling business there are many challenges and obstacles. What
has been your biggest challenge so far?
l would have to say that the biggest obstacle or challenge for me in this business will be living up to my dad’s name.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
Winning the AAU North Carolina State Championship would probably be number one.
How would you describe your wrestling style?
Right now, that is something I’m still working on and figuring out.
How does it feel to step into the ring knowing you're carrying on the
family legacy?
I'm not going to try and fill my dad's shoes, but just try and fill my own.
What should we look forward from you in the future?
I'm going to Japan with Prowrestling Noah's dojo for 3 months training. Then
I’ll make my way back to Eldon, MO to continue my training at the academy.
