On a fight Harley
Race had in the 1960s with Kenny McElrory better known
as the "Skidmore Bully" of northwest Missouri. McElroy
was killed in the town square of Skidmore in 1981, and
no one was ever arrested. the story became national news
and was featured on "60 minutes."
"Kenny used to
go to bars on the days the old-timers would get their
Social Security checks and scare them into buying him
beers. If they didn't, he'd slap them around. I was in
town visiting and was drinking in one of those bars.
Kenny started his crap, and I said 'Not today, Kenny.
Today, it's you and me.' So we went outside, and I laid
him out."
On the wild nights and life of a pro
wrestler:
"There's a lot of stories I could tell
you, but you couldn't put them in the paper. Let's just
say that back in 1966, when I was wrestling out of
Minneapolis, Mickey Mantle and I dated the same
stripper."
